Using Hula Hoop as a tool to understand, represent and work with emotions
Let’s hoop, act, and feel good together!
The goal of the workshop is twofold. On one side, we will explore how hula hooping can be used metaphorically in a theatrical context as a tool to understand, represent, and work with emotions. Through the creation of a small, choreographed hoop play, we will navigate the ways in which the fusion of physical activity and storytelling can break barriers and promote diversity and inclusivity on stage, fostering a sense of connection among participants.
On the other side, we will highlight the general benefits of hula hooping on individual mental health. The focused attention required during the activity can serve as a respite from stressors and negative thoughts related to minority stress, while also providing an outlet for self-expression.
