Ramakka & Anjanakka
Elders from the Jogathi Community
Ramakka & Anjanakka from Gollarahalli, Bellary are well known practitioners of Jogathi folk forms like ‘Yellamanaata’ and ‘Chowdki Pada’.
Ramakka is a nominal head of a reputable performance ensemble which until recently was headed by Padmashree awardee Manjamma B Jogathi. Both Ramakka and Manjamma trained under the highly awarded Kaalavva Jogathi.
Ramakka has performed at various prestigious cultural events across the state and a country. She is a memory bank of songs about goddess Yellamma and mesmerising on her instrument - the chowdki.
Ramakka will be with us at ŪRU to perform with @urbanfolkproject & offer workshops on folk singing and queer busking.
Anjannakka is an expert in Jogathi Nruthya and will be at ŪRU sharing this art form with us - a delicate art form of balancing a pot - a traditional practice with deep meaning and significance.
