Drag up by Chutney Mary

Chutney Mary is the performance alter of interdisciplinary artist Avril Stormy Unger. She sings, dances, DJ’s, raps, hosts queer events, is unabashedly gay and a performance powerhouse.

The Drag Up workshop is an entry point into nding your own Chutney Mary.

This workshop is open to those who may already have a drag persona they are playing with and to those who may want to nd an exploration in drag. The aim of the workshop is to find personal ways of expression, close to personal beliefs, building an alter ego to perform with, understanding what drag means to us, currently and historically and to understand the various forms of drag outside of the Western lens.
Each participant will find their own drag name, personality, character, style and belief by the end of the workshop. The participants will also have a starting point of a performance that they can further explore with post the workshop.

The workshop will include
- Brief introduction of the history of drag - In India and the West
- Understanding what drag means personally for each participant
- Recognising the parts of themself that they may be curious to explore and express through drag
- Working through the select aspects of the character they choose to build
- Creating a performance arc for each participant
- Sharing of performances created at the workshop
